Attendance and Punctuality

According to the requirements of the Education Act, it is now mandatory that you notify us of any absence including visits to the doctor or dentist.

  • Regular attendance at school has always been important. Without this, the teachers’ and the school’s efforts will be in vain.
  • Parents have a legal duty to send their children to school. Parents who cannot fulfil these duties face prosecution.
  • Parental responsibility also applies to ensuring that their children arrive at school on time, tidily and ready to learn.
  • The school must ask for assistance from Education Welfare Officers and notify the local Education Authority if pupils’ irregular attendance is a cause for concern.

You should contact the school via phone. We implement a first day contact system where parents will be contacted if we have not been notified of an absence.

Absences will be placed in two categories – AUTHORISED and UNAUTHORISED

If the school is contacted, the absence will be authorised. If there is no contact or an explanation for the absence, it will be noted as an ‘Unauthorised Absence’.

This register closes at 9:00am.

Any child who arrives late must see the secretary; a record is kept of children who arrive after 8:45am.

Arriving after the registration period will be noted as an unauthorised absence.

PERMISSION TO GO ON HOLIDAY

Before booking holidays during school times, parents should seek the school’s permission for their child to be absent from school. The school has a form to apply for holidays.
